The father had come from an underdeveloped country where danger lurked around every corner, he moved to the foreign land to find work and support his family. The father was there working for his family back home, but soon after his arrival he can’t find any work and doesn’t know what to do, he then remembers his family back home, struggling without him and remembers who he is working for. Despite the lack of work the father keeps looking and later, after many odd jobs, finds a somewhat stable job in a factory. We see through the story that the father meets many new people all of which have their own experiences that they share with him. All of these people that he meets have their own positive influence on him as they help him find work, learn the language, or what you can and can’t eat. In the end others influence on us is evident through our entire lives and even in our literature. For example the father in The Arrival went to an unfamiliar place to create a better life for his family and he learned lots from the friends he made there, Sofie came to a new place and decided to make some friends, after she had realized that her “friends” were really just bullies she decided to leave there influence, and personally the influence my family had on me ultimately stopped me from making a bad decision. I only wish that people could see the influence they have on others, I never really saw the influence I had on my younger cousins until they were older, be it I really had to look but I could see things that I did and that I had taught them believing they would never actually retain any of it. Really though if you treat others the same way you want to be treated then you can have a positive influence on who they become and who you become as
