Essay On Homophobia In America

People are made fun of on a daily basis for being themselves. People in the L.G.B.T. community are especially made fun of, laughed at and treated like lesser people, just for being themselves. People think that just because you learned something as a part of their religion, that it is the complete truth. People say that just because someone found true love in someone that happens to be the same sexuality as them, that they are not like other people and will not be able to enjoy life like it was meant to. Homophobia is destroying this country because when people are feared/against homosexuality, they are not only insulting that one person, they are insulting an entire lifestyle.
People that are against anyone in the L.G.B.T. community are detrimental to society and will cause a huge downfall of America. As Coretta Scott King once said “Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood. 60% of homosexual kids are bullied, to a point where most of them commit suicide or attempt it. Just last November, a thirteen year old boy killed himself because, he was bullied so much and hated by almost everyone at his school. He was hospitalized just a month before committing suicide, because a person from his school started punching him and violently hurting him. The kids usually called him, Fairy, gay-boy, and f****t. His mother added “I feel like these people who were bullying are the cause of why he is not here anymore, they pushed him to the edge.” This shows that homophobia and homophobic people are, destroying, not only adults but forcing kids to commit suicide for being who they are and what they believe
