In an interview with Diane Sawyer, it was discussed that nearly one school shooting happens in America a week (ABC News). This is a commons issue we see today. The thought of school shooting is an issue that is frightening to any student and one that is never expected to become reality. Sylvania Southview High School experienced a shooting threat; leaving many parents worries and many students nervous.
Before the start of school on Monday January 16, 2017 the high school’s administration staff received a notice from multiple concerned students that freshman,who goes unnamed, was planning out a school shooting on that day. Freshman had said that he “wanted to shoot up the school,” and that he had a plan on how we would do so. He was immediately taken from his class as soon as the report was made. Officers searched the student’s locker and his parents were called.

These students tend to have low self esteem and depression. Just like the student at Southview High School, children who lack parental support tend to also engage in aggressive actions (Harter). Teenage years play a key role in a person's psychological development. Bullying and humiliation makes boys feel weak and non masculine. It can often be inferred that humiliation can lead to threats. Based on studies, boys are more likely to enact in violent actions than girls are (Harter).
In most cases of school violence, there has been no indication of the shooting. Teachers were asked to rate their students on how violent they believed they were. On average, 92% of students were rated as non violent; while 8% of students could possibly be violent. Typical school shooters are Caucasian males and come from a suburban setting
