Student and Family Resource Essay Head Start is a federally funded program that intends to help low-income children seek the perfect family support and education. It is here to help kids build a strong foundation of life skills. Inclusion is a core value, where each child and adult are treated as important and are given respect in community and diversity. Head Start is a school where children start at age three if they have a birthday in October to age five. They are given the opportunity to learn from great teachers about succeeding in life and academics. Teachers put forth the effort to help bring the families into their education by reaching out to each family member. Head Start sends out a representative that goes to each child’s house to make sure they are well taken care of. They will ask if the parents need any help or any information about the student that the teachers need to know. The family is perceived as the most significant influence for a child’s needs. Having a relationship with the household is a huge part of Head Start’s program. Head Start is a whole-child, whole-family approach for children. As for this, it is also important to the school that they do not change any culture or language for the child. They want the students to strive to be themselves and change will not help that. The school provides over 11 different languages and as of now have two bilingual classes for English/Spanish. Providing this service helps every parent who wants to enroll their child feel comfortable. The eligibility requirements that are given says you have to be a resident in college station, and you have to meet the income requirements. As of right now, they have over 200 kids on the waiting list just to get in. The school reaches out and accepts any volunteers to
