This was demonstrated when the plane crashes and the pilot dies. Brian is a sole survivor, and is alone in the Canadian wilderness. And on top of that he has to fight for his survival, for example, he is forced to eat berries that aren't very good for him, and raw turtle eggs. Brian must learn to cope with the loneliness otherwise it could mean his demise. Brian however does manage to cope with the loneliness by keeping busy with finding food and making fires. But in some instances, notably after he makes his first fire and calls it his friend. This shows that Brian is craving human
