I am an HBCU All-Star, because as an HBCU undergraduate student, I have: had three years of research experience, had over 200 hours in hospital experience shadowing, and clinical observations, had over 100 hours volunteering in community health based projects within a third world country, had over 350 hours volunteering in underserved communities surrounding my university, been active in 5 student-ran campus organizations, been crowned as queen of 3 different campus organizations, attended 21 professional development conferences, participated in 5 internships, been inducted into 3 collegiate honor societies, studied abroad twice, been on the dean’s list and presidential honors scholars list for three years, and have successfully maintained a 4.0 GPA.
From my freshman year until currently, I have nurtured a commitment to helping the underserved. For example for the 2015-2016 school year, I organized and implemented a school wide Feed the Homeless Initiative. All of the food that was prepared that our students on campus did not eat, we would pass out to the public at a local homeless shelter. This initiative is a

Through both of these structures, I have been able to host programs, seminars, and special events that could be applicable to nearly every student on campus. I believe that I am an HBCU All-Star because I have made it a mission to go beyond merely resume stuffing, but making a difference at my

I believe I am a good candidate to be selected for the Robert Vela High School National Honor Society because I am a dedicated student. My grades do reflect my abilities as a student, but my work ethic in the co-curricular activities that I participate is what really defines it as I put a lot of time and effort into them. In U.I.L. calculator applications, which is the main activity that I partake in, I sacrifice my time almost everyday after school and sometimes my lunch period throughout the school year, as well as the majority of my Saturdays to compete and practice. Not a lot of students would give up this much time and effort unless they are very dedicated. This also reflects my leadership and character as one has to work and communicate…

I’ve heard of a couple other food places doing this, and I absolutely fell in love with the idea. Many people won’t donate money directly to homeless people in fear they would spend it on drugs or alcohol, but if we did it this way, and donated in a local public space, many more people would be willing to donate their money for someone to have a hot meal and not go hungry. I hope that whenever I start my business, that many other businesses will look at my restaurant as an example and follow in my footsteps. Together, as a whole we could significantly drop the rates of…

I have participated in several community service projects including: Serving at the Banquet, Kids Against Hunger, Mission Trips to New York City and Detroit and assisting a first grade classroom. Through these projects, I have been able to serve those in the Sioux Falls community and abroad. Serving at the Banquet allows the homeless and hungry of Sioux Falls to come and eat a warm meal. During the hours spent there, you not only get to serve the food, but you also get a chance to talk with some of the people and learn just how gracious they are. My favorite story of working at the Banquet took place around Christmas time.…
