This giant may seem scary because of it's size but really Great Danes are really big babies who hate being away from their owner. Although they are mature tame animals they are still dogs meaning if children are by them you should keep watch, the child could hurt the dog and the it could bite as a reaction to it. If he or she is chewing a bone don't take it away. Beware your child might get wiped by a happy wagging tail. These are some reasons on how Great Danes are child friendly.
Great Danes are great for being a watchdog NOT a guard dog, although you may think watchdog and guard dog are the same thing but they are different. A guard dog is a dog that's viscous and guards a specific thing/s, a watchdog is a dog that looks out for you and protects you if needed. Although other dogs can also be watch dogs but a Great Dane would be best in my opinion. People worked hard on breeding a gentle giant don't mess that up by making them a vicious guard dog. Therefor Great Danes are the perfect watchdog NOT a guard
