James Walton, owner of Storm Brewing and often referred to as the "mad scientist" in Canada created Glacial Mammoth Extinction beer. This special beer might imper your wallet as each bottle costs $1,000.
Glacial Mammoth Extinction is a sour beer, but it's not the taste that makes it pricey but the packaging itself. Each bottle was crafted by a "Vancouver glass-blower and fitted with an ivory pendant carved from a 35,000-year-old mammoth tusk," as per CTV News. Each bottle were meticulously created by artist Richard Marcus.
"(The tusks) are by-products of gold mining. The artist found a bunch of it from Yukon mining operations years ago. It's legal ivory ... no mammoths were killed just for this ivory," Walton explained to The Vancouver Sun. …show more content…
After some trials and errors, he went as far as his brain could imagine.
From a regular batch of Storm's Imperial Flanders Sour Ale, Walton started freezing it to temperatures of about minus-30 Celsius. Eventually he liked the result and decided to elevate the packaging, which led to the mammoth ivory.
When asked why he took the chance and created such distinctive beer. "The wine guys do it all the time. Why the hell shouldn't we do it?" Walton responded to NEWS 1130.
At the moment, Walton only produced 10 bottles of Glacial Mammoth Extinction and it will be on sale on December 5. Each bottle has 25 percent alcohol content. For those who are not willing to pay $1,000 for a well- crafted bottle, the brewery sells $80 per litre for the beer
