As a child and now as an adult I have always enjoyed toys, so this report will be reporting on children’s gender and toys. While shopping for my family and friends children for birthdays and Christmas I will play with the toys to check them out to see if they would enjoy the item chosen. It takes me back in time as a child and the memories that I had, so it can be extremely difficult being and adult shopping for kids. I contacted and spoke to Kathy at Hasbro Toy Company who completed my survey; it was quite interesting listening to her tell me about some marketing ideas that have been developed to increase sales for the company. The girls’ toys are Barbie, Disney Frozen, princess, hello kitty, make your own jewelry kits, baby dolls, and easy bake ovens. Almost all of the children will use their imaginations and create stories about the character they are playing with at the time. Some of the kids have such vivid imagination that they will keep themselves occupied and entertained for hours. Most of the toys that the boys will play with all relate to either fighting or aggression (wrestlers, soldiers and guns), and most of the girls toys relate to how they should appear (Barbie dolls, ballerina, costumes, jewelry and makeup). This may be linked to some girl’s having an eating disorder. According to an article called “Dying to be Barbie” tells how some women want to be thin like Barbie. The article stated that “Anorexia nervosa is the single deadliest mental health condition. Five to twenty percent of people diagnosed with anorexia will ultimately die from its ravaging effect on the body and the mind like cardiac complications, organ failure, and even
