From my own experience, my father has been the quiet one and my mother has been the loud one and always in control. Never has she used her power in the relationship for abuse but it is very obvious who is in control of every situation. My understanding of gender is defined by the things that males and females do that associate them to their side. Meaning males have different roles than females. Why are women so heavily looked down upon? For example, in the world of business, there is something called a glass ceiling. A glass ceiling is an invisible barrier that prevents women from rising to top positions in a company. Why, if women are supposed to be smart, are they restricted from higher jobs? Women in adulthood, rather than during adolescence, are portrayed as less than men, especially intelligence wise. I believe the difference between these stages in women and men can be simply explained. In the adolescent years, the guys are trying to shimmy their way through school without doing a lot of work. They believe the woman should be in charge, so that the work will get done easier. But when men get to adult hood, they realize that they are the Alpha Dog, and women are a threat to their survival.
