The top 30 wealthiest Americans own so much, they own more than half the population of the U.S. (Paul Buchheit/Alternet). That is proof that there is inequality still in today's society. The western world has made a great effort since the middle ages, but we still have things like gender inequality, income inequality, and political inequality.
You might not think about it, but there is a lot of gender inequality in today’s society. Believe it or not, but in some places, women can't even drive. While your sister’s and mother’s are expressing their individuality through what they wear, women in Saudi Arabia are treated like all they are good for is cooking and cleaning. Women are forced to wear an abaya. An abaya is a full length garment. Additionally, in places like that, if a man files for custody rights, he usually wins, and the women are left with nothing. Some Americans are so poor that they are referred to as the bottom half of the U.S. The bottom half owns a very small percentage of National wealth. Not only is it hard to be in the bottom half, but it is very hard to make your way up to the top half. Then there is the middle class of the U.S. The middle half is really far from the top half. So imagine how hard it is in the bottom half. Again, in the book I am reading, there is a section that refers to how poor Crispin’s town really is. “And meat. I swear, by Jesus’ name, there was more meat than the whole kingdom could consume. I had always known that Stromford Village had little enough to eat, but assumed that it was no different from the rest of the world. Now I discovered how poor my village was” (AVI 170). Just think about how hungry people must have been. They work all day for food or money and they barely get
