Essay On Friar Lawrence In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

Everyone wants to experience love in their lifetime. It’s an emotion that we as humans desire and need. Everyone wishes and dreams of the day when they get all dressed up and are united to their loved one for all eternity. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a tragic tale of two teenagers who meet and fall in love. Their love is a so deep that it drove them to do the unthinkable. A few days after their marriage they both committed suicide. Throughout the play we are introduced to a multitude of characters who all have different personalities and attitudes and all who contribute differently to the story. One of the biggest discussions about this play is who is most responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet. After carefully analyzing Shakespeare’s play it is clear that Friar Laurence is the culprit for Romeo and Juliet’s death because has his own suspicious personal agenda, he lied to the families, he gave Juliet the sleeping potion that ended up coming back and biting her in the behind, and he also set up a plan with Romeo that was full of flaws. The Friar from the very beginning of the play is very suspicious and has an eerie feel to him. Here the Friar is saying that he is agreeing to love these to people solely because he believed that their marriage will finally put an end to the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. Even though this is the first time we meet the Friar he is clearly coming up with a plan of his own where he hopes to end a long feud with two families. He also doesn’t seem to care that Romeo got over Roseline so easily and already is in love with Juliet. This moment is also important because we see how the Friar is already plotting some other plan that he hasn’t told Romeo and Juliet
