The Amendment was meant for the abolishment of slavery with few expectations such as punishment (document 1) and would be enforced by the legislation. Whether you were a citizen or under their jurisdictions this amendment applied to you, and different color or gender didn't exclude you from this movement (document 2 & 3). The congress protected this amendment by the appropriation of the legislation (document 3). However, this amendment was not favored by the south. In a political carton called, "The Freedman's Bureau" was an illustration that would be considered controversial to today. The drawing would appeal most to the South and thoose who didn't support the Freedman. The Freedman was a program meant to help slaves, whether it was suppling them with food or shelter or helping slaves find their family. The Reconstruction era lasted from 1865-1877 after the Civil War and was the reconstruction of United States for the state and socitety. During the reconstruction, there were three main problems that had to be deal with, how slaves and white southern people would be treated and how to deal with the states that rejoined the union. Passage of acts such as the 14th admendment, the Freedman's bearu and Civil Rights Act of of 1866 helped with the process of the reconstruction and brought alot of change compared to before. Change such as more civil rights for the arfican amercians and laws. As the states rejoined into the Union, they passed the 15th admendment and all the states reentered by 1870.
