The prisoner’s dilemma reminds me the fracking dilemma. I will be using the fracking dilemma to present my argument and example. Natural gas from shale has been a very active subject in the western region. Many residents are complaining that the fracking can affect the underground water and cause earthquakes. The energy companies and government agencies are giving the people an option to have either cheaper gas or clean water. If the public decides to have cheap gas they have to let this energy companies to perform fracking practices in the western states. The public also have to understand that these may come with consequences. For example, the states have primacy over the fracking practice. Most of the fluids that are used for fracking are confidential. The only thing we know is that they are not using diesel to frack. What we do not know is that the other chemicals they are using can be derived from diesel.
The states have to make sure these wells are well constructed and constantly monitored. I personally do not believe that fracking is bad if its performed correctly. The issue with fracking is that uses a lot of water to fracking the shale and produce natural gas. The water has to be injected back into the underground. In California, fracking companies are selling the water to agricultural industries for irrigation because the drought that the state is experiencing. Is this brine safe for irrigation? What’s in the water? So far, the states do not want to release this
