Every student in public school has said that the weekend just went by too quick. They also complain that they didn’t have enough time to complete a homework assignment because they were too busy during the weekend. Teachers probably feel rushed by all the papers that need to be graded before Monday starts back up. Everything just seems to be crammed into five days and there isn’t enough recovery time at the end. On the other hand, a four-day school week, everything isn’t crammed into four days and there is more recovery time at the end of the school week. A four-day school week has made it easier on schools by saving money, helping out the students, and also helping out the teachers.

Obviously, many students would love to have a three-day weekend. Many people believe that a four-day school week would be detrimental a students learning more than it would help the student. Although a four- day school week doesn’t include five days, it does include more hours into the school day. Therefore, the fact that a student has four days of school shouldn’t affect the way a student learns drastically. According to Mary Beth Walker, a dean at Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, a change from a five-day schedule to a four-day schedule shouldn’t affect a student in a negative way. If one thinks about it, in fact, a four-day school week would actually aid a student. Because the student has more time to reflect off the school week, he’d be ready for the next one. A five-day school week doesn’t give a student that much time to reflect off of the school week as a four-day week does. Lots of rest, of course, is another factor in having good grades. When I lived in Springfield, Colorado the school system there ran off of a four-day school week. In fact, many smaller schools throughout Colorado had four-day school weeks. The state of Colorado is big and people sometimes lived a long ways from the school. As a solution to save money, these schools would only go four days a week to conserve money for fuel. Not only did it save money but also I never met a fellow peer or teacher who didn’t like the four-day agenda. We got full days worth of school done by going till four o’clock in the afternoon. Everyone including me loved having the three-day weekend at the end of the four days. For some students it meant more resting, more catching up on homework, or more hanging out with friends. For me it meant more time with my Grandpa on the weekends. During basketball season, our coach said that we were getting behind on practices due to snow days that he decided to just have practice during the three-day weekend. With four-day weeks there is a lot more that can be done. I also maintained an A average that year too. I finished the year with an A in every class except Geometry, which I had a B. Four-day school weeks save money and they make school
