Essay On Fecal Pathogens

Improved Essays
In the lab, the results concluded that the water is indeed not healthy to drink for humans. The tubes indicated that there presence of fecal pathogens; which there was more than one. If one was presence, the water makes it automatically not healthy to drink. The different factors that were measured was the dissolved oxygen in which is an important factor to the aquatic ecosystems where all aquatic animals need to survive. Natural waters are healthy, stable in a environment, and have the chance to support a diversity of aquatic high dissolved oxygen. Cold water is know to hold more dissolved water than warm water; in which dissolved water has an important water quality of measurements. Dissolved oxygen (DO) was at 24 C degrees with 4 ppm. There are several impacts of organisms that live in the pond. Some impacts would be by being exposed to the sunglight, meaning that if the pond has little water flowing through the pond, then it can cause aquatic plants. Another impact with living organisms would be having low levels of oxygen. These organisms can grow, but at the same time die. The cycle will continue to flow with the release of the organism leaving their waste as they die. The release that they leave behind is decay into the pond and the nutrients help the cycle in the pond keep going. The results indicated a positive for fecal coliforms. Fecal coliforms, is a rod-shaped bacteria that is anaerobic and gram-negative. Bacteria can indeed survive in certain circumstances. Bacteria can survive in temperatures that are elevated and can decompose some substances that are organic. Coliform was place with 10 ml of water for 48 hours. Phosphate in water has indicated that its not harmful to humans nor to animals unless its present in a large amount of level. Unlike Dissolved oxygen in water, DO can be affected by aeration and diffusion. Levels of DO can also be affected by temperature and changes of

The current problem in Jaffrey is that, recently Jaffrey residents have noticed that Jaffrey Lake, which used to be clean, and a great place to swim, has changed. Slimy, green algae floats on the surface, and the water has turned very dirty. People are finding dead fish on the shore, and everyone is afraid they'll get sick if they swim in the lake. This is a major problem because, people around the lake will slowly start getting sick and one day the all the fish and plants in this water will die because the water is very very dirty. I was hired to test the water to determine the levels of Nitrates and Phosphates in this lake.…

Dug Run Water Quality Paige Melvin Professor Ress October 13, 2017 Introduction In this paper I will discussing how the water quality differs between the two separate locations within Dug Run. I will be discussing concepts like water quality which to the chemical, physical, biological, and radiological characteristics of water, using organisms to determine water quality which includes how well the water can maintain organisms in the water and how many organism it can hold, and using water chemistry to determine water quality which is using the different types of elements are in the water in the stream. Dug Run is a stream located on campus at the University of Northwestern Ohio. All of the samples were collected…

The zoogliamass uses some phosphorous to create new phospholipid bilayers (cell parts of new microorganisms), when the bacteria reproduce. The water is then pumped to secondary clarifiers. Here, water slows down and waste is able to float to top or sink to bottom. A polymer is added to help bacteria clump together and settle better. Ferric chloride is also added to remove phosphorous.…

Lake Winnipeg is measured to be about 24514 square kilometres, located in Manitoba Canada and its southern tip is about 55kilometres north of the city of Winnipeg. It is the largest lake within the borders of the southern Canada, Lake Winnipeg is also the sixth-largest fresh water lake in Canada. Lake Winnipeg consists of two distinct basins, the north basin which makes up approximately 75% o f the lake surface area and reaches 100 kilometres wide, while the south basin is up to 46 kilometres wide. The Lake is home to a staggering assortment of aquatic life, a wellspring of water to the animals that populate its shores, and it’s a major flyway for migrating birds. Over the years, researchers have shown the deteriorating water quality in the lake, some of the causes of the deteriorating water quality are pollution, invasive species, loss of biodiversity, E. coli contamination, climate change, controlled water levels, erosion, and habitat destruction.…

Fecal microbiota transplantation is a technique whereby fecal matter from a donor is utilized. Family members, or significant others who live in the same or close to the same environment that the patient lives in are selected, however, there have been successful transplant cases where an unrelated donor has been selected. Exclusion criteria include antibiotic therapy taken within the last three months before donation to ensure complete microbiome recovery and all donors are tested for infectious diseases to prevent transmission. A review of several studies of FMT (Burke & Lamont, 2013) also recommended exclusion of donors with unrelated diseases such as autoimmunity, gastrointestinal disorders, metabolic syndrome and liver disease.…

However, scientists have discovered life forms that thrive in this cold environment, and they term the polar oceans as important in maintaining a balance on earth. The amount of water frozen in these regions can be destructive if melted nod released to the warm waters. The McMurdo station is a destination for many scientists to conduct their studies on the waters and the life forms that survive in the cold environment (Nold, 2002). However, that stations fecal waste management is posing a threat to the organisms living in water as well as to the scientists themselves.…

(McCully, 2001) However, by interfering with a flowing body of water, the water collects and becomes stagnant, altering physical, chemical and biological properties of the area surround the dam. This in turn changes the population dynamics of microbial communities resulting in a rise of harmful bacteria in the area.…
