The food industry has changed dramatically within the past century. Nearly every restaurant operation in a town or city used to be locally owned by a family. As time progressed the same street with the locally owned restaurant is now occupied by several fast food restaurants. Many people around the nation ask this question. A key reason why people resort to fast food is simply because of convenience. In a study by University of Minnesota School of Public Health, “600 adults and teens in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area were interviewed…in 2005-2006. Most reported eating fast food at least three times per week” (Web Md). In this study this population was asked what the main reasons were for eating fast food so often. Most of their answers contributed to convenience, including “They’re quick (92.3 %) easy to get to (80.1%), and I’m too busy to cook (53.2%)” (WebMD). These justifications were all accredited to the fact that fast food is utterly convenient. It is at every single corner of a street, especially in cities. I know from experience that when families are busy traveling with sports and jobs, they might not have time to have a home cooked meal every night. When I used to play hockey, my family would eat at Qdoba or subway at least once a week, because we did not get home until ten o’clock some nights. Other families across America are very busy as well. When you only have a certain amount of time, it is easy and convenient to stop by something that is not time consuming. Although it is hard to steer away from fast food, we must remind ourselves that it isn’t always the healthiest, even if you do pick a salad off of a McDonald’s
