Essay On Family Immigration

Before my parents immigrated to the United States, they lived an unforgettable life filled with hardships. My dad was a drug addict. My mom decided to care only for my dad so she cut her relationship with her own family. I remember the stories my mom would tell me comparing her old life to her new life in the United States. She would always tell my sister and me to not be like her and my dad because it affects a person in the long run. My mother told me that one day she caught my dad under the influence of drugs and was on the verge of collapsing. My mother told him that if he really cared about his daughter and son that he would stop. When getting into arguments with my dad she would try to go back home but her parents would never accept her and tell her to leave, so she had to deal with my dad and take care of him so that we, as a family, could be happy. There was a specific event where my mom and sister saw my dad almost die, my mom convinced my dad to come with her and leave Mexico to come to the United States to give my sister and I a better life. I remember being in 2nd grade and my mom having my sister with her and my mom telling us that my dad is back on drugs and kicked us out the house. This will hinder my learning since college doesn’t necessarily have to be done independently so I would want those support systems around me that I can tell my problems to and that’s what my parents offer to me and it has worked out for me in school. I have thought about this very deeply and I have decided that going to the University of Houston would give me the best chance to be successful because I can live on campus and come back home on the weekends where I would not be able if I went out of
