Essay On Family Artifacts

An artifact is an object that has monetary and/or sentimental value. My artifact is coins that my family and I brought from Jordan. Even though the coins have monetary value, for me the sentimental value outweighs the monetary value. They are pretty important to me and my family because they remind me of the cruel world in the Middle East during that time. After a while, I have collected a lot of coins and paper money from different countries that I have visited, but the most meaningful coins in my collection are the Jordanian coins. They have changed me. They are basically the door to my memories. I have experienced most of my childhood in Jordan because of what happened in Iraq in 2003. It changed my family’s lives. One person that really related to this was my dad. So I interviewed him. He had some strong feelings about the coins. They are the only thing that remind me of my previous life. The cruel life that I had to live in It was a very dark world. I asked my dad about the coins. I asked “why are the coins important to you?” He said:
It was very hard moving on from Iraq. I was born there. I lived there for most of my life, and then the war came, and I had to protect all of you. There was nothing else I could’ve done. So I got a visa and we went to Jordan together. They are important to me because they highlighted a new start of our lives. We turned a page in the book and it became real for us.
