If we ever want to hope for equality, we must acknowledge and celebrate our differences, as the “American Melting Pot” Yoshino criticizes has failed to do. Before we have a world where everyone is equal, we must acknowledge not everyone is equal. Some people are more equal than others. Each person has a different history of oppression, has different levels of privilege and has different experiences with discrimination. When society acknowledge this, and accepts people as they truly are, perhaps then we can have a perfect world, like Yoshino dreams
