Essay On Facilitation Camp Leadership

The specific leadership I am referring to with the organization Free the Children, is the two week Leaders in Training facilitation camp that I was recommended for. It was the first time that this program had run and they were looking to have a small group of dedicated, inspiring, passionate, hard working and interesting upper year high school to be a part of it. The program was slightly difficult to adjust to since it had never been run before, but the five applicants selected made it into the amazing experience it was. The entire point of the program was to create an environment where older more experienced campers could gain leadership experience by helping younger campers, learn more about social justice issues they are passionate about and gained skilled needed to be a facilitator later on. It’s not an easy task to do, but became much easier once we discovered what style of leadership we each had.
One issue I am very passionate is girl’s rights, so I learned a lot about that while at my camp and was able to come back home afterwards and educate all the people I interact with on a daily basis, mostly classmates, about lack of girl’s education and how gender equity is needed. I had gone to this camp for the previous two years as only a camper where I spent a lot of time discussing social justice issues and interacting with like-minded people who truly care about problems regarding freedom and equity.
