Summer ending school is near. Knowing a year ago a new chapter of my life was opening up called high school. I was just like you excited to be a freshman, but also nervous to what my high school experience would be like. During summer I took a week long course called College & careers 101. Which got you to know Topeka West better. It gave you good information on how to be successful during High School and beyond. We got to learn great organization skills. Good studying skills. I joined Anchor Club as a follower. I attended my first club meeting with a friend and committed without hesitation. For years, I had been one of those people who would or wouldn’t do something based on the amount of friends I had participating in the same thing. By sophomore year, this began to change. By junior year, that part of me was almost nonexistent – and now, I find myself to be an entirely different person, not basing my own actions on others, and being confident in myself, encouraging new experiences of my own.…

My freshman year was one of my craziest school year. It came from fake hall passes, to skipping in the restroom, and acting all bad by getting referrals. I remember my ap secretary always used to call me “Diablo” just because i always got in trouble and she said i used to drive her crazy. I just never cared about the consequence of skipping so much, good thing I never got caught. Meeting new friends and new attitudes and a little more of responsibility and to be honest waking up so early every single morning was not that fun.…

A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

Twenty six years ago we were riding in the back of my parent’s truck, back then we didn’t have to wear seat belts and we could stretch out in the back. It was me and my twin sister with our best friend Holly, and she was sharing with us about Jesus. I don’t remember a lot about the conversation since I was only 11 years old, but I do remember like it was yesterday that my sister and I decided to ask Jesus into our hearts for the first time. From that day forward I have learned to walk daily with Jesus by my side. That decision is what has gotten me to where I am today, applying to finish my schooling at CCU.…

When entering junior high, we were constantly reminded by teachers, parents, and school administrators how different it was from elementary school. It was supposed to be the start of a transition from childhood to young adulthood, and though I discounted many of these sentiments at the time, looking back it certainly was. In an instant, it seemed, everyone started swearing and the hallways began to smell of a putrid mixture of not enough or too much cologne. For the first time we had to change before gym, no one really sure whether it was more socially acceptable to change in a bathroom stall or feign confidence by doing it out in the open. Talk swirled of who got their periods, who was wearing what bra size, and which boys needed to stop cultivating…
