Mr. Jason DeLuca is a 2nd grade teacher who taught his class a lesson about simple machines. As a teacher he helped his students understand and plan in groups their individual simple machines. From this video Mr. DeLuca uses to activates his student’s prior knowledge and has them participates through whole body drive into the lesson about movement. From the beginning of the lesson Mr. DeLuca is clear on giving his 2nd grade class directions. He mentions to them on the carpet that they will need to interact with each other when they start to construct their simple machines. He explains to his 2nd grade class that he wants them to work together in groups to create their simple machine. He also gives them directions by telling them that they should act or move like the machine that they are creating. The students are able to connect with other things which it makes it more meaningful. The teacher makes eye contact with his students while they are on the rug. He simply looks at them while he is speaking to them and this is very important because this means that he is engaging with his students. This is also an example of body language because he is making eye contact with his student, and he is showing that he is engaged. DeLuca allows his students to share their sketches that they have been working. He tells his students that they will have a gallery walk where they are allowed to move around the classroom. The students were able present and share through a gallery walk through their sketches. They were also allowed to comment on their classmates sketches if they found something that they liked about it. This technique allowed to the students to be able to get up and move around the room.
