According to American Psychological Associations, "elder abuse is the infliction of physical, emotional/psychological, sexual or financial harm on an older adult." • Sexual Abuse—any kind/type of unwelcomed sexual contact to an elderly person.
• Neglect—the failure by the responsible of the family, friend or caregiver to provide food, shelter, health care, or protection for the elder person.
• Exploitation—the illegal taking, misuse, or concealment of funds, property, or assets of a senior for someone else's benefit.
• Emotional Abuse—causing mental pain, anguish, or distress on an elder person through verbal or nonverbal acts such as humiliating, intimidating, or threatening.
• Abandonment— leaving the elderly person by themselves or in the hands with someone that is not capable to take care of the elderly person.
• Self-neglect—characterized as the failure of a person to perform essential, self-care tasks and that such failure threatens his/her own health or safety.

Being aware of signs and ways to help prevent elderly abuse are very important for people to understand. Some ways to prevent elderly abuse are educating others about it, repiste care, soical contact, support and counseling. Even though one sign does not necessarily indicate abuse, some tell-tale signs that there could be a problem
