When people in Connecticut, and throughout the U.S., move their loved ones into nursing homes, they generally expect them to be treated with dignity and respect. Unfortunately, however, sometimes those who are charged with their care mistreat the residents at these types of facilities. In fact, more than 50 percent of the nursing home staff members questioned for one study admitted to abusing or neglecting residents within the past year, according to the National Center on Elder Abuse. Although not all nursing home abuse can be prevented, there are things that people can do to help protect those they care about.
