What are the effects of ruling passion in one’s life? Ruling passions in one’s life can lead to the individual becoming very strong willed but not realising what risks they are taking. Many become impatient when trying to achieve their goals so they try to take some sort of short cut to get there faster, which doesn’t always have the best results. When someone has ruling passion in their life they can in a sense become greedy, not set a backup plan and be crushed mentally when expected results are not delivered. It is important for the reader of “Paper” to learn that an individual’s desires and interests teach them to work hard but should also be kept within healthy boundaries because if they don’t it could lead to unhealthy mental conditions

There are many effects on a person’s life as a result of their ruling passion. The product of ruling passion includes; hard work and will power, greediness and can impact the individual’s personal life as well as their mental wellbeing. Through the story “Paper” we are able to witness examples of the effects of a ruling passion in one’s life, we see how things can take unexpected turns and lead to unexpected consequences. At the end of the story, at Tay Soon’s funeral there is a line referring to the burning paper house that states, “It burned brilliantly, and in three minutes was a heap of ashes on the grave.” Which can relate to how the stocks rised rapidly but took an unexpected turn and crashed. It connects to the unexpected turn in Tay and Yee’s dreams and how taking risks, greed and not having a backup plan was a result of their actions. The effects of ruling passion in one’s life teach one to be ambitious but without a backup plan and boundaries can become greedy and be lead down a hazardous condition on path. An individual should always try their best to achieve their goals but not see a greed for something and let that become the reason you want to achieve your goal, you should achieve your goals through hard work and with a plan and whether it takes long or not you can accomplish your passions in
