Educational History Narrative I have received most of my education outside of school. The one person who has always left a lasting effect on me is Anthony Scalzi. My freshman year of high school I realized I needed a way to make money. A lot of my friends were getting jobs, and I didn't wanna be left behind when they had money to do things and I didn't. At the same time, I was a very shy person who hated interacting with others. The idea of getting a job terrified me since I would have to interact with strangers everyday, so I started my own business. I used to be an avid gamer. I would come home everyday from school and play videogames for hours on end. The one thing I knew really well was the gaming community, so, I had the idea of starting …show more content…
It was from Anthony Scalzi, an owner of one of the biggest gaming companies at the time. “Aporia Customs” was the name of his company. They specialized in creating custom gaming controllers. I saw how Aporia was partnered with the biggest companies and teams in the industry, and I strived to be at that same level. Completely in shock by this powerful person getting in contact with me, I didn’t respond to him. I was so shy and nervous to talk to him, I just simply ignored his message. After several days of thinking of how I made a mistake in not messaging him back, I finally worked up the confidence to simply send him a message back. He responded almost instantly to my message, saying he was amazed on how creative my ideas were. I, of course, was shocked to read this and immediately complimented him back on how successful he was. After that, he asked if we could have a meeting via skype. I had never called someone I didn't know before, nor had I ever talked to someone of his importance. Nervous and terrified, I still accepted his offer. The call was on New Year's Eve, close to midnight. He gave me a call and I answered. Little did I know, my whole life was about to change. Anthony started talking about his experiences with business and how it changed his whole life for the better. I was straightforward and told him who I was: a 15 year old freshman in high school who was just trying to make some extra …show more content…
I learned that he was a senior in high school, meaning that we were only three years apart in age and in school experience. He told me how he spent his whole high school career only working on his companies. He told me how this was a terrible idea, since he only had a few friends and wasn't in any involved school activities. I abided by that advice and tried to involve myself more in school, while still maintaining and growing my companies. But the most important thing that Anthony taught me was the key principles of how to start and maintain a successful company. I still use many of these key principles today. Those principles have led me to start two successful companies and work many other businesses. The main principle is to keep learning. If you aren't constantly learning, someone else is and they will surpass you. I’ve listened to his advice by reading books and talking to as many successful people as possible. By being successful in the business, it has made me realize how I want to pursue a career in the business

I asked, and not twenty minutes later I had learned all about him; that he, too, lived in Ridgefield, that he worked as a businessman, and much more. After that, I shared with him, and we got to talking for quite a while. An hour turned into two, time feeling meaningless, before we decided to take our conversation over to the nearest coffee house, the strong smell drifting up into our noses, and we stayed there talking until late at night. After that, I scribbled down my number for him to call, and he helped me get a cab home. On the ride to my house, I couldn't help but smile, thinking of James and…
