The connection between eating healthy and mood is due to the non-essential amino acid tryptophan. As tryptophan enters the brain, more serotonin is synthesized in the brain, generating an improved mood. Serotonin plays a major role in determining mood in the human body because it is a mood regulator. Also, making smart carbohydrate choices such as fruits, whole grains, and vegetables will allow more serotonin to be synthesized in the brain.
