Essay On Eagle Scout

This past summer I set out to finish a goal I set many years beforehand. I began scouts in 1st grade, and since the beginning I set my goal to achieve the highest rank in scouting, the eagle scout award. This rank is the most difficult to achieve, but also the most respected in the scouting program. Becoming an eagle scout is a true symbol of a boy finally growing into a man. Before a scout can even start on this great task, they must obtain all of the other ranks before it. During this time of rank advancement the scout is required to earn a total of 21 merit badges, 12 of these being specific badges and the rest up to the scout’s selection. The purpose of this process is to teach the scout important life skills. A boy is also required to hold several leadership positions within the troop to learn. As a troop leader, I learned the important skills of leadership but also the importance of being a friend to those I am in charge of. I learned how to interact with people on a professional level and coordinate materials and work efforts in order to complete requirements on time. I learned how to lead people in a friendly and guiding way in order to earn the respect of those that were working. Most importantly, I experienced the great satisfaction and sense of achievement that comes with completing a goal I had set many years ago. I experienced firsthand the struggles and challenges of following through with a long-term goal while also balancing my everyday life. It helped me to better understand the importance of time management and how taking a little time everyday to work towards a goal will help to achieve significant results.
