Tips for Hanging Drywall
One task that is extremely common when it comes to painter jobs is when new drywall is needed. While this seems to be a complicated task, it is actually something that many homeowners decide to do on their own. If you are in this group of people, here are some tips to help you make sure it is done the right way.
Start with the Right Tools
As with most home improvement jobs, hanging new drywall is one that requires a certain set of tools and materials. For starters, you will need both a putty knife and a utility knife. Sandpaper and a tape measure are also essential.

Remove all furniture, debris and other items from the room. You will also want to cover the floor if you don’t plan to replace it. Protecting it is the best way to make sure it is in great shape once your finish hanging the drywall. Plus, this is a necessary part of the process when you will be adding paint or texturing down the road.
Choose the Right Drywall
All drywall isn’t created equally. In fact, there are actually a few different types of drywall to choose from. Selecting the correct type is important because it could interfere with having a proper wall once you are finished. For example, for the most part, you will want to select ½ in drywall for the areas around your doors and windows. But, if you are installing drywall in your bathroom, you will want to go with the water-resistant version.
Likewise, you will probably use five eighths inch for your ceiling. This same style also is typically fire resistant, which may be required in some areas of your home. You may need to check with a building expert to determine where you are required to hang this type of drywall.
