A very sad trend has developed in this country, a trend of the discrimination of dogs by their breed. The American people see a dog and immediately place a judgement in their own mind of what breed it is and how it will behave if approached. I believe there are concrete reasons for why this thought process exists.
First of all, the media consistently stirs up the pot in this matter. It seems to me that any time I see a breaking news story of a dog attack, it has something to do with the typically biased breeds; pit bulls, boxers, bulldogs, etc. How much does the media really know about the dogs involved in these attacks? It is difficult to convey an accurate news story unless the reporter actually knows for an absolute fact that the attacking dog is a pure bred biased breed, therefore, it would be unfair to make assumptions on the breed of dog. With the frequency of these attacks on the news, the media has instilled fear in the people of this country with what I observe to be ignorant statements regarding the dogs involved in the attack.

Dog fighting is not only illegal, but the participating dog may never rid itself of the attitude and aggression from the fighting activities. Training a dog to be capable of fighting involves some very harsh treatments that no animal should have to endure.
