When you walk into a laboratory of biology, you will see people recording, discussing, and testing. Biology is a science that based on thinking and testing of a theories. Scientists of biology will join together to gather and information in the laboratory, forming a discourse community. A discourse community is a group of people who have common interest and have methods for communicating ways to achieve those goals. According to author Gary D. Schmidt and William J. Vande Kopple in “Discourse Communities” a discourse community is “a group of people, who share ways to claim, organize, communicate and evaluate meanings. “The biology major are considered discourse communities with the same concern of living things. If people know how biology major as a discourse community work can help them involved in it.

They are not only limit in certain things, they also willing to include with other major like chemistry. They are focusing on living things such as human being. In a journal of current biology by Michael Gross “Concerning the provision of gender identity services, the report criticises that the services are still part of the mental health provision, even though gender dysphoria is no longer regarded as a mental disorder”(Michael Gross). This shows that biology as a discourse community only focus on living things, and how living things change. They don’t focus on other side effect that might due to this issue. To get involve with this society, people must be open-minded, and willing to accept new things even you have your own belief. Communicate ideas is very important in this discourse community.
