Personal Narrative: My Confessions

Audience member: From my boyhood on, I was always kind of a loner. I’ve never really been part of a group. When I was in high school, I was in track and football and stuff like that, but I never really trusted other men like I trust myself. Different things happened to me. I got betrayed. Another guy was sleeping with my girlfriend. So, as a consequence of that, I never really wanted to get too close to other men. And that is still true today. If I had to say who my close friend would be, I would have to say it’s my wife. You know? I spend a lot of my time with her, and I pride myself a lot on being a father and a husband, and I’m realizing now that I can expand that into my neighborhood. I can pray for my neighborhood, I can pray for the kids in high school as they pass by. I find there’s a ministry for me everywhere. My concern is because I keep my own company, how do I make my confessions? Growing up, I found in other churches that making confessions …show more content…
And I’m not going to say that your long in it, but everyone needs a place of accountability. And without a doubt to be able to say that your wife is your best friend, that’s a good thing. But we do need another man in our life who can help keep us be accountable. The Bible says, “…confess your faults one to another, pray one for another that you might be healed.” What I’m hearing from you is that you’re not as open is because you’ve been hurt. And because you’ve been hurt, it also appears that you never allowed yourself to heal. And because you’ve never healed, you have not been able to move on and accept a man in your life who will be able to be there for you. Sometimes you need someone other than your wife. Some things that come up might be about her. And we can go to God. But sometimes we need another brother who has been through similar circumstances that we can talk with. And so, we definitely do need somebody to talk to sometimes for another reason, for accountability’s sake. We need
