Essay On Desperate To Avoid Deportation

On the front page of the Washington Post, an article titled “Desperate to Avoid Deportation talked about how in Detroit Iraqi Christians are fearful of being deported because of President Trump’s new immigration policy. The new immigration policy states that a non-citizens and legal residents, who commit a crime under federal law can be deported. The Iraq government has failed to corporate with US officials regaling deportations, however the US government was able to negotiate a deal with Baghdad. The public caught word of a plane that sent eight Iraqis to Baghdad. Many Iraqis and Muslims, who were once Trump supporters during the election, now feel betrayed by the president (Hauslohner). My family members are immigrants from Mexico. Most of my family have become US citizen but some of my family members are not. For them, the fear of deportation is a concern now. Although the article specifically talked about Muslim immigrants, President Trump’s immigration policy targets Mexican immigrants. During his campaign, President Trump talked about building a wall and deporting all the Mexican, who are “rapists and murders.” My family are not criminals they are hard working individual trying to support their families. The president making these statements about minorities groups with disrespect and ignorance, makes discriminatory behavior seem acceptable. My family did not fear deportation as much before because they have done nothing wrong. It is the same for immigrants living in Detroit, who are getting deported over minor offenses. They are at risk of deportation not because of serious offenses but rather over traffic violations, minor misdemeanors, and past criminal record of relieved crime. It is upsetting seeing my family concern for their safety living in the US. The new policy posed threats for innocent people to be wrongly deported and break apart families, including my
