Essay On Cyrano De Bergerac

Edmond Rostand wrote one of his most famous novels Cyrano de Bergerac, a novel that included drama and love. His main character was Cyrano an ugly man who was in love with a beautiful woman. It is easy to identify each character by who they seem to be and how they truly are.Cyrano seem to have a strong self-esteem, he is intelligent and humorous. A drunk man insulted him by saying he has a big nose but Cyrano just laughed and said twenty more things that the drunk man could of said. This is not actually Cyrano, he is actually a man, who feels ugly and who is afraid of telling Roxane that he loves her. Being in love can make someone do foolish things or do the impossible for that individual. He seemed to be happy when he thinks that he impressed …show more content…
Cyrano felt bad but he cared for Roxane, he wanted her to be happy even if it meant not including him in her life.Cyrano was going through a difficult time , when he was told that he was not the one she loved. He wrote a gorgeous letter that describe her perfectly.Letters that spoke for Cyrano’s heart .It is easy to understand that he feels insecure because it is her (Roxanne ) the woman he spend his childhood with, the woman that no other woman can replace. But there is another character named Christian, he was not actually as smart as Cyrano, he was timid towards woman, but his only advantage was being good looking .Christian did loved Roxane, almost like Cyrano loved Roxane. What is difficult to see is to know who suffer the most, when it came to love Roxane .Because Christian suffered too, at first he did not he was actually taking advantage over Cyrano , because Christian was the one who supposedly was writing all dose letters to Roxane. This was actually a great combination to win her heart , being good looking as well as romantic. There was even a section of the book where there Roxane, Cyrano and Christian appear at the same time but Cyrano was hiding, but he spoke for Christian …show more content…
Roxane realise that his voice is kind of different, and she feels it is not Christian, so in reality she was in love with that man who she could not see. A man in the shadows but from that darkness there was spark of light coming from his heart which reflected Roxane's love.It is sad because Cyrano still feels insecure, this is easy to understand but it it abase that he is becoming more open as the book keeps on going.Christian did not wanted Cyrano to tell her all those beautiful stuff , but he wanted to win her heart . In the middle of the book Christian and Cyrano went to battle , a war that could of take someone's life , it is interesting that the author add a war because love is another type of a war one that could of take someone's heart away , there is chaos sometimes in love , tears, memories, but from all that there is that feeling in the heart that keep on poking , that makes you smile just by remembering that special someone . Love can make someone do foolish

He aims in his commentary to make Cyrano’s morality a joke, and with that he reveals his patronizing nature, as if he is above such petty things as morals. In the use of the “three musketeers and Don Christ Quixote”, characters in literature who are renowned for their righteousness and morality, he brings Cyrano’s stance on fame and success to the level of those characters- admirable, but ultimately ridiculed and fictional. It is clear that he does not care much for the- to him, fanciful- beliefs of his companion and is considerably exasperated by the reluctance of his acquaintance to prosper. Le Bret is condescending and conceited in the extreme, in supposing that his ideals of prosperity are any better than Cyrano’s vision of a life free from the “dirty road to advancement”. He notes that Cyrano has great potential, telling him that he’d “wing up to the top”, but is unaware of the thing that he values the most in his art-…

Not Far From Strange There is really something in common on the book “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand and “The Bell Jar” by Sylvia plath. He has many talents within him poetry, musician and a remarkable duelist. He has an extremely large nose which prevents him from expressing his love to his cousin Roxanne.…

This book has taught me so much about how true love never fails no matter what happens. The little things in life matter more than the big things. Also that you should never judge someone by their appearance because they are different inside the things you can’t see with a human naked eye, you have to get to know that person to find the truly special, ideal things inside with the loving warm caring hearts. “People die, but love doesn’t,” I learned that even if people pass away there is still that true love that never escapes the hearts of people that are still here on earth. Just like when Marguerite passed away Eddie still loved her with all his heart and the same goes for Marguerite that even when she was in heaven.…

As Portillo states, “Cyrano, the scourge of falsehood, forces his loved ones to live a lie”(1), proving that Cyrano has no trouble lying to his loved ones. Also proved by the critic Lahr when she writes “Roxane success that Cyrano is the author of Christian’s love letters, he never confesses his love for Roxane”(1) exemplifying the great lengths Cyrano will go to to keep his unconditional love a secret. However, Cyrano is not the only character who uses deception. Roxane persuades De Guiche to keep Christian from the war “why concoct such a devious plan?” “Is it for love?”…

example of Catherine’s desire to be loved is implicitly implied through her seeing danger in every corner of the court because she believed that she is disposable because she is feeling unloved in a foreign place with rules and dangers that are unknown to her. Chomsky uses the insecurity that Catherine may have felt upon her first arrival in Russia to portray her as a feeble girl who needs to be loved in a potentially dangerous and hostile world. Chomsky uses small portions of the primary sources to show Catherine as a weak ruler who is constantly seeking love through her many lovers throughout the film. Chomsky shows her as a female ruler who needs support from strong masculine personalities such as her lovers and the Grand Chancellor and Vice Chancellor. These men, whom she typically has a love for in either a romantic way or fatherly way, play a large role in her decision-making throughout the film.…

He defeated a hundred men by himself who were going after his friend, he also helped a friend win the affection of the women he loves, Roxane. Although he hated his nose because he feels like it was in the way, he also defended it when others mock it instead he mocks his own nose so others don’t think it bothers him. He is sensitive about his nose but all in all, he is very boastful about it. Romance the main element of the play was all over, from him helping Christian romance Roxane to him finally confessing about the letters he composed in behalf of Christian to him and Roxane finally confessing their love for each other. Arthur Nethercot states “Over and over there are hints that they are not fully responsible for their behavior, and an element of pity and understanding thus enters into the reader’s attempt at judgement.” This pity for Geraldine and her unloving nature for her victims is what separates her from Carmilla. As Carmilla is destroyed in the end because she let love blind her from the fate that she has carefully avoided through her life. Geraldine sacrifices love for Christabel and in the end never meets a fate like Carmilla, by sticking to her nature Geraldine leaves Coleridge unable to finish because her lust for pleasure will live…

In literature, love has always been a concept of great debate, although, what exactly is love? Pamela C. Regan, from Los Angeles University, explains that “…A person who experiences sexual desire for another individual, along with other emotional or psychological events, may characterize his or her state as one of ‘being in love…’” (Regan 139). However, does this sexual desire always breed emotion? When one thinks of love, thoughts of tenderness, kindness, and romance often arise with it.…
