Life in Costa Rica is often interpreted as “pura vida,” also known as the good life. Its green paradise, exotic beaches, and beautiful scenery attract individuals to this tourist country. From the outside, Costa Rica is the ideal place to live or visit, but on the inside children are dying, living in poverty, are child laborers, discriminated against, and are being used as sexual objects. Costa Rica health care is ranked number one in Latin America. It provides universal health care to citizens and permanent residents. Statistics show that Costa Rica has the longest life expectancy in Latin America. Even though the health care system is ranked number one in Latin America, mortality is still occurring due to the contamination of Aids, especially in infants.
