While living in paradise, citizens of Honolulu tend to eat out and dine at their local favored restaurant, eating their signature items. While not caring about what they put in their mouth, customers would eat away. This holds a problem because of the amount of sodium these restaurants put to enhance their flavors in their dishes. Because more and more are becoming lazy, the rate of obesity has increased in the state of Hawaii. The reason people tend to eat out more is because they do not know how to cook themselves. If we teach the people of Hawaii Basic cooking techniques, it will help save money, and reduce the obesity rate down to where it was back in the 1990’s or lower. In 25 years, the obesity rates has increased by 13.8%, which doesn’t …show more content…
One being that being able to prepare meals at home makes the person in control over the quality and the quantity of food. Being able to pick from a wide selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and a local supermarket can really enhance the dish that is being prepared while maintaining proper hygiene, whereas restaurant will mostly use products that are enhancers to make their dishes taste better such as Monosodium Glutamate, also known as MSG. By choosing the type of produce the person wants in their dish, they are already on the right path to a healthier lifestyle. By eating out, you also have a disadvantage. A lot of restaurants will describe on the menu what is on the plate, but they will not describe how they prepped it, or what kinds of ingredients they have used in their sauces or seasoning. By cooking at home, you are more aware of what you are putting in your food, and can take out the dislikes and only add ingredients that you would …show more content…
However, not a lot of people attend to these workshops because of the lack of advertisement. In order to get the people to realize that this is an issue, there should be tents set up in events such as the food and wine festival, Korean festival, Okinawan festival, and or the KCC farmers market, marketing the importance of cooking at home, and the reasons, alongside with the benefits of cooking at home. By setting up booths and these local events. It will hopefully bring attention to attend the workshops. The workshop will be free and will be held in the KCC culinary building, and will be providing ingredients to get more of a hands on experience. By also bringing guest chefs from all over the island, and or all over the world, it will also broaden the audiences taste buds and mind in thinking that there are alternative ways to create dishes that are affordable while being healthy and
