Essay On Conformity

Logging onto any sort of social media nowadays is because of things like conformity. It makes people feel like they should use things like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat in order to fit in. So many people become obsessed with the idea of fitting in that it becomes the only thing they worry about. Many of these people who don’t realize that they should be themselves because the more they conform, the more they lose their individuality and become someone they’re not. It is not a good idea for a person to change who they are in order to fit in with everyone, the idea of conformity might seem like it’s an okay thing to do at first, but the more someone tries to fit in the more they become someone they’re not.

In the movie “Dead Poets Society” there’s a group of students that choose to do what they are told and not what they want, until their teacher Mr. Keating tells them to “seize the day.” In this quote it is displayed that in order to seize the day people must choose to be non-conformists and do what they want not what society wants. Another story that shows conformity is a bad things is “The Pedestrian” because in this story it is displayed what the world could be like with only one non-conformist. This is shown in the quote “The street was silent and long and empty, with only his shadow moving like the shadow of a hawk in mid-country.” THe author clearly illustrates what a conformist world would be like. By showing what the world could be like filled with conformists the reader should understand why conformity is a bad thing because in this story’s world so many people give up who they are when they shouldn’t, but the urge to fit in controls people making them lose their identity. These reasons are why conformity is bad, it controls people’s lives as well as making them lose a part of
