I will not say that I have been robbed of any opportunities because of growing up here, but rather that it paved my way to my interest in these matters. My first year a Holy Cross, I finally understood the disadvantages my High School teachers always mentioned we would face in a predominantly anglo and economically predominant environment. These were the roughest semesters for me at Holy Cross academically, which can be seen in my transcript, but also just socially. I struggled to figure out what a well written term paper should be like, what hanging out with people from completely different backgrounds and life experiences was like, among many other things. It was not only until my third semester that I confidently found my way through the ins and out on how to succeed and use all the resources available to me in order to succeed.
Today, here I am applying for a graduate school program. Not only does this make my family proud but it also makes me proud. If I was able to surpass the many challenges that could have kept me from succeeding, I can be part of something that allows other children and youths to reach a successful
