Life wanted to continue, but something was holding it back, a deep gloom settled over the world and held it there; refusing to budge. When the final report marked the event was over, that thirteen victims had perished, twelve teenage students and one teacher, and the shooters had committed suicide, everyone expected life to continue forward. But what actually happened was the complete opposite. For weeks, even months after the event, the main topic of conversation was the Columbine School shooting. “Columbine was one of the first major shootings in school and it blindspott everyone. When the one year anniversary hit, people were still talking about it.” she explained.

“I think our students are more tolerant. I think there is heightened awareness. I think when people do see a potential danger in their school or in their community, they act on it immediately. I think that has prevented several events at other schools from occurring”(Robb). In comparison to the security of 1999 to today, it’s surprising. Schools are updating procedures, drills, and security every year. The children should not have to fear going to school, school is meant for education, point blank. Without the Columbine School shooting, it would have happened later just in a new location with different victims.
