Throughout history the United States has had to overcome some horrific obstacles within the borders themselves. Crisis events occur each and every year in the U.S. no matter the amount of training or tactics we do in order to deter such event. With each major crisis that occurs on U.S. soil there is always something to learn from it. The Columbine High School shooting was no different. The shooting took place on April 20, 1999 in Littleton, Colorado. The two suspects who carried out the shooting killing thirteen individuals were Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris. This brutal attack was a shock to America, and the lessons learned need to be known to prevent such a devastating attack from happening again on U.S. soil. The day of April 20, 1999 is one that no one will forget. It was just a normal day for the students and teachers at Columbine High School that morning, but little did they know that around 11:19 a.m. all their lives would be changed forever. The only information they had received upon arrive was that there was an active shooter within the complex threating to kill anyone in their paths. Just knowing that little piece of vital information first responders were hesitant to go charging into the building because of the fear of risking not only the first responder’s lives but also the students still in the complex. The awaiting agencies sitting outside the High School were overcome by situation that was unfolding in front of their eyes. The more time that went by the potential for more casualties increased with each minute that passed. The more information the agencies outside could gather the easier it was to make the critical decisions that they were faced with. Some of the community would later attempt to fill suit against the police, but the majority of the suits would later be dismissed in court
