Originally started from the military, Color Guard has adapted into many forms. Now with wooden rifles and unsharpened sabres it has spread to the band community. Having tosses that touch the sky and costumes that sparkle is not the only thing Color Guard. It is not only a sport that not only has benefits on the field or mat but also off. The many things anyone learns from Color Guard can be carried into other aspects of your life. Throughout life the people that someone meets builds a person to the core, it makes someone's character. While in Color Guard I have learned so many things from how to respect authority to how high to throw a quad. Being in a Color Guard program gives you the ability to make friends and family that will last a lifetime. Weather it be in a marching band or a winter guard you can always make a new friend. While performing a show you have to know what work comes next, exactly what plane your fingertips should be on and how much effort is put into each toss. This memory skill transfers to almost every subject, from math formulas to history dates. The amount of time you spend on a field results in having eminence concentration to do one thing for a long period of time. During one second of a show you have to be focused on multiple things at once, the angle of your chin, the bend in your elbows, and all the way through the tips of your toes.
