To Snip or Not
Should male babies in the U.S. be circumcised, well first lets take a look at what circumcision is. As stated by Webmd.com Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin. It is the most common surgical procedure done in the U.S. today. It is also a very ancient procedure that has its roots in religion. Although circumcisions are very common in the U.S. it is not the same for other places around the world such as South America, Asia, and Europe. Today parents of new baby boys have a very important decision to make, to have their son circumcised or not, for some it is an easy decision due to cultural and religious beliefs but for other parents it’s not that simple. There are many reasons why parents decide to have their son circumcised, such as religious beliefs, hygiene, and social reason. An example of circumcision done for religious reasons would be Jewish families who have their baby sons circumcised on the baby’s eighth day in a ceremony. My brother, who is 16 years younger than I, is circumcised. He was born with excess foreskin that couldn’t be retracted for that reason he was required to be circumcised. I in the other hand am not circumcised and have never been affected by it; I haven’t had any problems with hygiene, sex, or health issues due to being uncircumcised. Although my brother is circumcised and I am not we both have healthy and normal penises. Ultimately, I believe that circumcision is a subjective decision that parents should think over thoroughly, either for religious reasons or personal preferences. The only time circumcision should be a definite yes should be when it is necessary for medical reasons, otherwise the parents should evaluate if circumcision is right for their baby
