Should smoking be outlawed? The use of cigarettes and other tobacco products has been on the rise in the past few decades as a result of advertisement and more common usage over the years. Because cigarettes and tobacco products have been around for quite some time there has been speculation as to whether they are truly beneficial, or really harmful. Given the evidence provided from Scientists, cigarettes and other tobacco products are actually proven to have negative effects on a person’s health. The manufacturing of cigarettes requires many materials in the process, from the making of the paper, to the adding of the chemical, and with any industry manufacturing a product requires a factory. Cigarettes need many materials to make them, as mentioned before need many materials to produce them. Such a process takes away many things from these environments, all for the process of curing to make the cigarette better. Doing this, it takes away the natural resources from the environment and throws it into an unbalanced state. Another important aspect to take into account in that cigarettes should be banned is that the user doesn’t like their addiction, and is aware that it is dangerous for their health. Tobaccocontrol.bmj.com states “…addiction rates of 80% or 90% for people who smoke…” showing that many people grow an addiction to smoking faster than other drugs, and they are aware that they are getting addicted and are trying to stop this addiction. These users are also aware that to make these cigarettes, thousands of chemicals are put into their body and their lungs, and they dislike this, but they can’t help it because they get addicted to the nicotine that is put into the cigarettes. Nicotine is a chemical that when inhaled, gives the user a high, but only in short does, leaving the user wanting more over time. Cigarettes are extremely degrading …show more content…
Given the evidence before, and on many other articles, and just the health information itself, one can see that cigarettes are destructive. If cigarettes are banned altogether along with tobacco products, then there would be a reduced number in the amount of deaths, and this would help the cigarette smoker as well because they won’t be tempted to go out and buy any cigarettes if they are not being manufactured anymore. One needs to look past their addiction, and to their life and wellbeing, along with others around them, to live a longer and better life. People will have their own opinion in regards to cigarettes and tobacco products, but Science says otherwise, like how they are deadly and pose many health threats. Cigarettes and other tobacco products being banned is a controversial topic. Some people want them to be banned, while others don’t want them to be or are indifferent. But if one looks at the problems that smoking poses, including lung disease and other forms of cancer, then one might change their insight on how cigarettes really seem. With them banned, then many lives will be spared, and many people will live happy, healthy lives. With all the problems that cigarettes present, is one willing to change their mind to better their

Smoking shouldn’t be taken lightly and seen just as paper burning tobacco. It is a huge deal for those people that decide to stick in a cancer stick in their mouths and go about it like its nothing. Considering all the harms cigarette smoking can cause people should take in consideration the banning of smoking. Smoking has caused more than many deaths than any other addicting substance in the U.S. On the site, “goaskalice.edu”, she states, “Cigarette smoking causes approximately six million preventable deaths per year (which includes nonsmokers who are exposed to smoke in their environments)” Alice is pretty much stating that anybody that smokes can cause the life of a person that doesn’t. That is intense because now a days there is rarely anybody that doesn’t smoke. Cigarette smoking not only causes deaths, but it is one of the main reasons many diseases and cancers occur for example it can cause cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and coronary heart disease and for the cancers it can cause bladder, cervix, esophagus, kidney, lungs, and mouth cancers (Alice). It sucks that such a thing can be addictive and that many have to fight to stop the addiction, but if it causes deaths it is better off banned. A lot of people disagree with it being banned, but for the sake of everybody that is around a smoker it should. In the article, “The Real Reason behind Public Smoking Bans” by Sarah Clune she mentions,…

A lot of cigarette representatives will argue that there is no harm in smoking, especially to the individuals who aren’t behind, “the puff.” Sadly both those statements aren’t true, did you know that over 1075 smokers and 137 second hand smokers die from smoke related deaths every day. Most of these deaths are provided by the 69 different animal and human carcinogens implanted in cigarettes every day. Carcinogens are substances that are capable of causing cancer in living tissue.…

An article by Hall, Gartner and Forlini (2015) analyzed the ethical issue raised by the ban of EC which neglects the rational thinking ability of smokers and deprived their right to make decisions and to be exposed in a spectrum of free choices. However, the opponents of EC show no respect towards smoker’s autonomy based on the assumption that their use of EC is simply due to uncontrollable nicotine compulsion, which is not a matter of decision-making. Based on my evaluation, the article analysis seems more valid than the opponents of EC. Even though smokers are under influence by nicotine, it does not play decisive role in driving them to puffing on EC. According to a survey conducted by Rutten et al. (2015), three major motivations behind the use of EC are quiting smoking (58.4%), reducing smoking (57.9%), and health risks (51.9%). Such additional survey reveals there are health purposes and not just nicotine addiction driven reasons. It indicates a rational appraisal is present beneath their spontaneous decisions to use EC and smokers are capable to select what best suits their interests. Therefore, we should make sure alternatives for current smoker to choose instead of unethically twisting their arm to return to more harmful (Lindblom, 2015), not banned conventional cigarette by prohibiting EC. Those who wish to improve physical health definitely deserve…

I agree that cigarettes should be outlawed. Everyone knows smoking cigarettes can cause major health problems and that being around someone who is smoking is harmful due to second-hand smoke. If the government was to ban cigarettes health care cost would go down as well as decreasing waste. The tobacco companies are the only ones who profit. The tobacco companies pay taxes to the government which in turn pays for healthcare for individuals on state health insurance. Society should be for banning cigarettes because it would reduce healthcare costs as well as reducing air pollution.…
