In the United States smoking is the number one cause of preventable death. The amount of people that die or become ill from smoking is ridiculously large. About 53,800 people die every year from second-hand smoke exposure. The second-hand smoke exposure means that they didn’t even have to put their lips onto the cigarette, other people basically did it for them. They inhaled so much smoke from other people that it also affected their organs. Smoking affects the air that we have to breath in every day. Imagine how many infants unwillingly inhale cigarette smoke each day. There are also those people that smoke in front of children or smoke in public places where anybody can see. Smoking a cigarette is no different than smoking any other illegal drug. It does the same amount of harm to your body and brain just like the others. Nicotine is often compared to plenty of other drugs that exist today. Just like a cigarette, cocaine was once a legal drug. Cocaine started as a pain killer and eventually made its way to being inappropriately used. They were not aware of the horrible affects that it would cause the body. As soon as they discovered all the harm that it caused they made that substance illegal. Nicotine is just as addictive and dangerous. Cocaine did not stay legal for very long, so why didn’t the same happen with a cigarette? A cigarette is known to make a person feel light headed or relaxed and cocaine can give a person the same type of

Since the first settlers came here from England, cigarettes and tobacco has been a part of the American culture. Back then, the feeble government and economy was greatly dependent on the product, but now, while it does still bring in money, it’s a major health risk and overall danger to the U.S and the populous who live in it because of very dire and controversial reasons. The U.S should no longer sell cigarettes and make them illegal because it would decrease the annual death toll, it would over all make the population healthier, and it would bring profit to safer alternatives.…

Smoking shouldn’t be taken lightly and seen just as paper burning tobacco. It is a huge deal for those people that decide to stick in a cancer stick in their mouths and go about it like its nothing. Considering all the harms cigarette smoking can cause people should take in consideration the banning of smoking. Smoking has caused more than many deaths than any other addicting substance in the U.S. On the site, “goaskalice.edu”, she states, “Cigarette smoking causes approximately six million preventable deaths per year (which includes nonsmokers who are exposed to smoke in their environments)” Alice is pretty much stating that anybody that smokes can cause the life of a person that doesn’t. That is intense because now a days there is rarely anybody that doesn’t smoke. Cigarette smoking not only causes deaths, but it is one of the main reasons many diseases and cancers occur for example it can cause cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and coronary heart disease and for the cancers it can cause bladder, cervix, esophagus, kidney, lungs, and mouth cancers (Alice). It sucks that such a thing can be addictive and that many have to fight to stop the addiction, but if it causes deaths it is better off banned. A lot of people disagree with it being banned, but for the sake of everybody that is around a smoker it should. In the article, “The Real Reason behind Public Smoking Bans” by Sarah Clune she mentions,…

While some would say that in the life we live today money is definitely more important I believe that this could be changed with a bit more regulation. Although people do have the option of not smoking, it is in their hands to decide what they want out of their own lives. There is many health centers that are in place to help people quit smoking and yet many people that say they want to quit smoking don 't take advantage of. This topic did in fact leaves me confused on how I feel about the banning of tobacco. There is both right and wrong in the topic and there 's not really a big reason that is not backed with something that makes it wrong. I feel like in the end eventually people will come to their senses or maybe there will be something bigger that will bring in good tax revenue to our country, but until that happens tobacco will continue to be a big contributor to the economy and the regulation of it will also continue to be a slow process. Smoking is the cause for thousands of deaths each year and many people that are not smokers and are even healthy in their lives are still affected from it because of second hand smoking, but long as there is benefit of it, it will continue to be legal and continue to harm many people every…
