He found joy and relationships with normal people in random places. These people where a lot like Chris, they did not care about materialistic items they cared about the people they surrounded themselves with and finding overall happiness. I think he liked making friends with the people he met because they were so different than his own parents. They supported his choice to go on an adventure in Alaska and wanted the best for him. They also knew how to talk to him and had things in common with Chris. “… Nine or ten paperbound books, most of which had been given to him by Jan Burres in Niland.” This alone says a lot about the friendships he made especially with Jan. I feel like by the end of his journey he cared more for the people he met along the way than he did his parents. Chris was fed up with their lies he wanted independence and happiness and he finally found that. Going to the Alaskan Interior may not have been the best place, but that’s where he found happiness. The saddest part about his whole story was that he passed away. I was so excited for him when I read that he was happy and ready to return to his family. He could have turned his life around and accepted his family for who they truly were. I also think his parents would have changed to make Chris
