Everyday people disappear from their busy lives in society and head out to a place where none of that exists, the wild. Most of these stories are never heard of because the person returns or there is no one that cared about him however, there is one person’s story that has intrigued and touched many people across the country. This person is Chris McCandless. The actual motive for him disappearing into the wild is unknown but the main reasons are because he wanted to escape a toxic relationship that he had with his parents and he wanted to be able to complete something on his own and not with the assistance of his family.
Not everyone has a perfect relationship with their parents but in McCandless’ case he has an absolute terrible relationship with his parents. His whole life his parents have been pushing him to succeed and become the best he could be. While most kids appreciate a little push or a boost of confidence McCandless’ parents when above and beyond that and pushed him so hard that he just wanted it all to end and for them to leave his life. In some of McCandless’ writing he stated “I’m going to divorce them as my parents once and for all and never speak to those idiots again as long as I live” (46). We can learn that the relationships kids have with their parents can cause kids to do things they would have never thought of doing. Parents need to be there for their children but they can not expect perfection all the time from them. They also have to let their kids do things on their own. They can’t try to throw money at them and always influence their decisions. Although some people might say that he went into the wild because he was a selfish narcissus the evidence shows that the real cause of his trip and his death is due to the bad relationship he had with his
