This attempt to fend off the intruders to his peoples land became called Chief Red Clouds War. This war between the U.S government lasted for 2 years! Trail to destroy army forts and ambush soldiers. One of his his biggest accomplishment was successfully forcing the U.S. government off the section of the Bozeman Trail from the North Platte River to the gold fields in Montana. This was when the U.S. soldiers were the most unprepared and since the U.S. Government was so unprepared this eventually lead to the "Fort Laramie Treaty". The treaty was official in the year of 1868 the treaty promised gifts, financial incentives, retention of some of their land and a reservation for the people to live on peacefully. Unfortunately the peace did not last long, the gold seekers continually violated the treaty by passing through the reservation.
