Essay On Chasing Ice

Released in 2012, Chasing Ice follows the efforts of nature photographer, James Balog, as he documents climate change through the world's melting glaciers. The film is written by Mark Monroe and its producers include, Jeff Orlowski, Jerry Aronson, as well as, Paula DuPre Pesmen. I chose this particular documentary due to my interest in the effects of climate change throughout the world. Two filmmakers, Jeff Orlowski and Jerry Aronson, along with, one film producer combined efforts in order to produce Chasing Ice. It is significant due to Orlowski’s original part as the first videographer for Extreme Ice Survey as he later went on to direct as well as, produce the documentary. As a result, I would have liked to see information regarding the prevention of further damage, as this information may have improved the film. Furthermore, as a viewer they were unintentional results regarding feelings of guiltiness as you watch the disappearance of enormous, ancient glaciers. The documentary makes you feel guilty as it shows your actions as a human being negatively impacting the planet. Despite the guilty feeling, I would recommend others to view Chasing Ice to thwart any skepticism regarding climate change as well as, to view first-hand the effects throughout the globe. The documentary may impact skeptics of climate change, people of different cultures, particularly cultures from high industrious countries, as the film provides visible proof to the effects of human actions on our planet.
