If Australia has formed the diverse and powerful nation it is under our current flag, why should we waste 25 million dollars changing it? Instead, we should put this money towards creating a better unity between all of the cultures that Australia is home to and helping those in need. Our flag promotes our core institutions and values as well as having many connections to the past. The Union Jack reflects our British heritage, a very significant factor which made Australia the nation it is today. Britain gave Australia its language, laws, government, court system and many other solid foundations. The Commonwealth Star is a way of representing Australia’s democracy and unison. The Southern Cross is prominent in Aboriginal mythology so our current flag already has links to Indigenous Australians.
